Frequently
Asked Questions About L'il Barn Builder
Where can I see a L'il
Barn Builder Building?
We advertise mainly
through ACE Hardware stores where we have small models you can
see. We can send you a flyer and tell you of a location
nearest you.
What styles of sheds are offered by L'il Barn Builder?
We have two styles, a Barn style with a gambrel roof and a
Cottage style with a gable roof. However, we do offer taller
versions of both of these style buildings.
What types of materials are used?
Materials are natural wood products. No pre-engineered
wood materials are used. L'il Barn Builder uses Dug Fir on its
floor joist, wall studs and rafters. The floor is built on top
of 40-year pressure treated skids. T-111 siding 8" O.C.
is also Dug Fir. Floor sheeting is constructed of 3/4"
plywood and the roof sheeting is 1/2" plywood material.
Do I need a concrete slab for this building?
Not necessarily. However, it is simply a matter of what
the purchaser wants. The building will be built on pressure
treated skids and they will sit on top of the concrete. The
most important thing is to ensure the site is level prior to
L'il Barn Builder constructing your building.
Is there any additional cost?
L'il Barn Builder buildings come with a window, standard
four foot double doors hinged and bolted for security, two
vents located on each peak, metal drip edge with 20 year
fiberglass shingles and construction cost are included in the
price. Most importantly, our buildings are fully constructed
on your site in one day!
However, L'il Barn Builder does have additional options
available to further enhance your building to meet your
specific needs.
Do your sheds come painted?
No. L'il Barn Builder sheds are manufactured from natural
wood products and do not come with pre-engineered or coated
material. However, in some instances we can offer a painted building at
an extra cost for the purchaser.
What options are available?
We can add windows, turbine vents, shelves, an entry ramp,
steel entry doors, skylights, lofts, patio covers (lean too) and workbenches.
Do I need a permit for this building?
It truly depends on your local building department
regulations. Cities and counties determine what size building
requires a permit and the cost associated with acquiring a
permit. In most counties, a permit is required if your
building will exceed 120 square feet (10' x 12'). Some
counties allow a shed to be built without a permit if it is
less than 200 square feet and it is not permanently anchored.
Always contact your local municipality to get specific
information. In addition, some certain communities may have
CCR's, which may also require approval.
However, acquiring a permit is the responsibility of the
property owner.
What should I do before the construction of the building?
The single most important item is to ensure your site is level
and clean. This is extremely important. Here are a few
helpful hints;
1. Ensure that your location has 18" to 24" of
clearance on all sides and leaves adequate work area for
the construction of your building.
2. It is best to pick a location that is in a high spot on
your site for drainage purposes. If you are going to install a
simple drain system, complete it prior to the construction of
your building.
3. Ensure site is as level as possible. You may want to put
down peat gravel prior to having your building constructed
(this is not necessary, just a matter of your preference). If
the site is not completely level, our only alternative is to
use shims to level your building. Though, your building will
remain sound, it is simply more effective to have the site
level. Extra leveling charges can occur due to an unleveled
site.
4. Ensure that your building site does not encroach upon
property easements. These buildings are not easy to move!
5. Secure the permit if required, prior to L'il Barn Builder
coming to construct your new building! L'il Barn Builder can
assist the purchaser in obtaining a permit by supplying
drawings at an extra cost. Remember, it is the property
owner's responsibility to obtain the necessary permits.
